Special Education
The Niskayuna Central School District is responsible for providing special education services to all resident students who qualify for such supports. The Student Support Service Department's mission is to provide appropriate, meaningful, challenging and individualized support to our students in their Least Restrictive Environment. Special educators develop IEPs/goals which are designed to address each student's unique needs in the Least Restrictive Environment. They also assist general educators in understanding those needs as spelled out in the IEP. Special education staff also provide support to general education teachers upon request or as dictated by a student's IEP. The high school CSE chairperson, special educators, school psychologist, speech and language pathologist, and teacher assistant are all resourses that make decisions about individual students when needed. Special educators support several students in inclusionary settings and Resource Room settings, while also providing special class instruction to students who qualify; all of which is dictated by the youngster's Individual Education Plan.
