The School and Community
Niskayuna is suburban community with an approximate population of 21,000 residents. It is conveniently located in the Albany, Schenectady, Troy metropolitan area. The community has long provided strong and consistent support to an effective and forward-looking educational program. The district takes in students from towns of Niskayuna and Rexford and parts of Glenville and Colonie.
Niskayuna High School is considered to be a focal point of the community. We are a comprehensive high school with a student population of 1,430 students in grades 9-12. Thirteen departments offer a rich variety of programs designed to meet the needs of a talented student population. Offerings include 48 honors and 20 AP classes, options for interdisciplinary student, and a broad range of electives. Classes are offered in five 78-minute blocks on alternate days.
Distinctions
Niskayuna High School has been recognized as one of the top high schools in the area by Capital District Business Review and has been ranked # 1 on three occasions over the last ten years. Upon heading into the 21st Century, The Wall Street Journal published a report that ranked NHS in the top ten high schools in the country based upon achievement data, standardized test scores, and SAT results. Each year, our students rank among the best in performance on all state assessments.
There are over 125 faculty members at Niskayuna High School, with 99% of whom hold advanced degrees, including 5 doctoral degrees. In addition, 13 members of our teaching faculty are distinguished as Nationally Board Certified Teachers.Click here for a listing of our staff honors and recognitions.
