The book Where the Red Fern Grows was a heartwarming story about a boy who only wanted two pups but could not afford them. The boy (Billy) lived up in the mountains and had a very poor family. Billy knew that his family was very poor but kept asking them if they would by him two coon hounds. Every single time Billy asked for the coon hounds his parents would say no we can not afford dogs. One day, Billy saw a sign that said coon hounds $25.00 each. So Billy deiced that he would save up $50.00 selling bait to fishermen. After two years, Billy saved up $50.00 and bought his two coon hounds and named them Old Dan and Little Ann because Billy saw those names carved in a tree. Billy taught his coon hounds how to hunt for coons. There was this one time where Billy took his dogs out coon hunting and the coon went up this huge tree. Now Billy promised Old Dan and little Ann that if they treed a coon, Billy would cut down the tree, and when the dogs treed the coon in the big oak tree Billy kept his promise and after a few days Billy got the big oak tree got cut down.

Billy had a very big adventure with his dogs in the middle of winter. You see Billy, Old Dan, and Little Ann were chasing a coon though the woods when they came to thin ice. Old Dan and Little Ann were so into the chase they decided to jump over the water. Old Dan made it but Little Ann couldn't make it and broke the ice. She fell into the icy water. Billy did not know what to do. It was hopeless but Billy could not say it was hopeless to Old Dan. Then all of a sudden the lamp post that he brought with him moved, and it gave Billy an idea. He used that idea to try and rescue his pup. I won't tell you what happened because it will ruin the story for you.
There were many other exciting parts in the book like when Billy took his dogs to a hunting contest. Billy's dad and grampa came too. Billy was not sure if he would win or not but he had fun. Now I must tell you about the most exciting part of this book. It happened when Billy was walking with his dogs. This huge mountain lion came up and tried to hurt Billy but Old Dan jumps and............... If you want to find out what happens read the book Where the Red Fern Grows . It was a very good book if you started reading this book you will never want to put it down I know I couldn't.

This year I read the great book Where the Red Fern Grows . The book is about a boy named Billy and his family. They were poor. In the book Billy wants two hound pups . Billy's family is too poor and can't afford them . Billy was heart-broken . One day Billy was on a walk and found an ad from an old newspaper where some fishermen were camping out . When he found the ad he was so excited that he decided that he would do odds and ends like pick berries and sell them at his grandfather's store without telling his parents . Eventually he earned enough money for the two pups . One day he sneaked out of his house and set out on his way to town to get the pups . Finally he gets to the store where the pups would be bought . He bought the pups and went home. From this point on is when the adventure , drama , and suspense begins. For example on the way home Billy and his pups go to a cave for shelter , and a mountain lion comes and Billy has to face the lion to save his pups lives. As you can see this is a very exciting book.
I Would recommend this book to all ages , If you read this book you will never put it down. Many things happen in this book . For example a lion attacks and Something Tragic happens .
In conclusion I want to say that this book rates a 100% in my mind and you should definitely read it !
