The novel SOS Titanic
by Eve Bunting was based on the real live ship, Titanic
. It was one of the many books out about the Titanic. This novel, though, was fiction,
instead of facts about the ship. In the following I will tell you about the fascinating
book SOS Titanic.
The main character in the novel is Barry. He was a first class passenger on the ship
Titanic. The ship was going to take the passengers to America where Barry was going
to meet his parents. While he was boarding, he saw one of his neighbors who lived
on his neighborhood. That family (the Flynn's) was very mean to Barry's grandparents
(who he was living with for most of his years). Barry was in love with the Flynn's
daughter. Her name is Peegan Flynn. The only problem though was that the Flynns
were in the second class. So, Barry wouldn't be able to see Peegan very much.
Peegan sometimes sneaked to the first class level to watch the ship sail across the
water. Barry saw her on the deck and told her that he was in love with her. Peegan
confessed that she was in love with him too. After that, Barry and Peegan saw each
other many times until one fateful day. On that day, Titanic hit an iceburg and was
about to sink. Barry couldn't find Peegan because she was in the second class.
Barry tried to reach her, but he couldn't. It wasn't possible to go down into the
second class and find her in total confusion. Luckily, he found her roaming around on the
deck and tried to get get off the boat, alive.
The reading level on this novel is about 5th or 6th grade. It isn't a hard book to read at all, and adults can easily read through it. Children can read it just fine,
with very few problems. The good part for the readers is the story about the Titanic
. The reader gets to see the people's ideas and how they acted when the ship was
sinking. A very interesting novel and the best I ever read.
