A good classic that I have read this year was National Velvet. National Velvet was written by Enid Bagnold. I really enjoyed reading the book National Velvet.
National Velvet was a very exciting and interesting book. This book that I read was about a girl named Velvet who wants to race her horse Lightning in a big race. Velvet even cuts her hair to make herself look like a man so that she can race her Lightning. I think that Velvet really wants to be able to race Lightning if she does things extreme as cutting her hair. She accomplishes her goal, but when she is racing, Lightning trips and falls over side ways! When the doctors are taking care of Velvet they find out that she is a girl and she gets disqualified from the race. This is a really sad moment for Velvet because she did all that she could to get in the race, and she gets disqualified.
I like the way the author made the main character of the book a horse named Lightning. Velvets horse is a very good horse and I thought that it was interesting that the main character of the book was a horse. The scenery of the book was also very interesting. My favorite part of the book was when Velvet and Lightning were at the starting line of the race waiting for the gun shot to start the race. The gun goes off and Velvet and Lightning are on their way.
If you are looking for a good book to read, I would strongly suggest National Velvet by Enid Bagnold. Once you start reading this book you will not want to stop reading it because it is such a good book!
