This was a very good book, all different feelings and emotions combined
to make a good story. It was about a young women ( fifteen years old )
who moved to the harsh mountains to be a schoolteacher. When she got there
she found poverty, hunger, and a great need to be loved and appreciated.
Young children were sent to the schoolhouse hungry and with no shoes in
the dead of winter. Christy ( the teacher ) set out to make sure that all
of the children were properly taken care of. She raised money to get a
telephone installed, schooolbooks for the school, and sheets and mattresses
for some of the homes.
Christy makes friends with quite a few people, including the doctor who
she ends up assisting in more than one incident. She helps to discover
an illegal wine maker who was hiding the wine under the schoolhouse, and
support a few widowers whose deaths were a tragedy to many people. This
book was very sad, but I really enjoyed it.
Christy was a diffecult book for me to read, with over four hundred pages,
and quite a few words that I didn't understand. The emotion involved in
this story was incredible, and if you are determined enough you should
defenitely read it.
