Anne of the Island is one of my favorite classics that I have read this year. The time period of this novel is in the early 1900's. Its main setting is at a college called Redmond.
This story is about a girl named Anne Shirley who is eighteen. She leaves here home in Green Gables to go away to college. This was a difficult decision for her to make because she loves here family, who would like her to stay, but she wants to have a good education. Her friend Priscilla and she go to a college called Redmond. As they explore the college, they meet Philippa who they become close friends with. They feel she is the most beautiful girl on campus.
Anne and Priscilla decide that they want to live off campus. They have been keeping their eye on a little house near Redmond, called Patty's Place. The two old ladies that live there want to go explore some other countries for a couple of years, and are looking for some one to rent the house out. Anne and her rent it out. Priscilla asks if she can live with them, and they are happy to let her. Annes' friend from back home, Stella, decides that she wants to go to Redmond as well. She comes to live with them and brings along her Aunt Jamesina who comes to help them take care of the house. All five of them become the best of friends. Aunt Jamesina is their friend, as well as their mother in a way. She helps them make up their minds from little things to things that will affect their lives forever.
During the vacations, Anne visits her family. Her foster mother Marilla is always so happy to see her. Davy and Dora Keith, twins that are eight years old, live with Marilla. They are not Anne's real family, but they are as close as them. Davy looks up to Anne, and always as her questions, because he feels she knows everything. Dora enjoys Anne but is not as close to her as Davy is.
Throughout their years at college, they have to make some difficult decisions about how their lives are going to be after college, especially Anne. Anne has the most difficult time when it comes to marriage. She has to decide who she really loves and who she just wants to be friends with.
Anne of the Island is a great novel. It's very interesting, and is not at a difficult reading level. All of the characters' have to face many problems, but they eventually work them out. L.M. Montgomery has written several other books in this series starting with Anne of Green Gables. She also has wrote Emily's Quest and the series of those books. If your looking for a classic that is entertaining, I would recommend this one.

Anne of the Island is an enchanting classic. It is very exciting. I could not keep my hands off it. I read it every chance I had.
Anne of the Island is mainly about Anne and her life in college. Anne has to leave the farm and is very depressed about it. She will miss Green Gables (the farm). At college she meets a very rich family. The family really likes her, but Anne is not that sure that she likes them. She believes that they are a little weird. So, when the son Rich asks her to marry him, she turns him down. She says in the book that she likes him, but why did she turn him down? Anne herself can not figure it out. She can not understand why she turned down a very wealthy and charming man. Rich is very upset with her, so he will not even be friends with her. Anne cannot understand this.
One day at her boarding house, she happened to look outside. She saw a girl out there sitting in a cemetery under a tree. She decided to talk to her. So, the next day, at college, she spoke to the girl. The girl, Phillipa, is very nice. Anne and Phillipa become very good friends, almost as good friends as Anne and Diana were on Green Gables.
Anne and her time for the boarding house are almost up. So, Anne and Phil decide to go house hunting. They look all over the town, depressed because they cannot find a house.
As if under their noses, Anne looks up. She likes the house, she used to dream about being able to take a step inside, and marvel about it. She saw a sign, it said, "Patties Place for Sale." Anne went inside to talk to the two elderly women. They are going away to Europe, so they let Anne and Phill have the house. They live there for a while. One day, a cat comes along. Anne and Phil decide to keep it. The cat Rusty, gets into trouble. That makes Phil want to get rid of it. So, they try to kill Rusty.
One of Anne's friends from Green Gables asks her to marry him. Gilbert, tries really hard. But for some reason Anne turns him down. Charlie Sloane also asks Anne to marry her, yet she turns him down too.
If you want a good book that takes place in the late 1800s, you have to read Anne of the Island . This book is for every one that likes a good book. If you want to know who Anne marries, or if she ever marries, this is a must. The author really describes every thing. When Anne finds out her friend is sick and is dying, you feel as if you have known Ruby (the friend) for all your life. If you want to know if Rusty lives, then this is a definite. I recommend this book for any one that likes to read. This book is a definite classic, for its writing is one of a kind.
