One of the classics I read this year was The Lilies of the Field, which was written by William E. Barret.
The Lilies of the Field was about one man named Homer Smith who just moved from his parents house. Homer is looking for a job and curious about what's in the west. While on the road, he sees four nuns and looking that they needed some serious help, he walks out of his car and introduces himself to the four German nuns. The German nuns call Homer Schmidt, or in English, Smith.
Homer stays for a long time helping with chores and fixing many things and still thinking he is going to get paid. One day, the head nun, Mother Mary Marthe, shows Homer a picture of a church drawing. Homer juts stares at the nun looking at her in a startled way. Mother Mary Marthe quotes, "You build me a chapel Schimdt." Throughout the book, you will learn how Homer copes with the nuns and how he builds his great chapel.
If you love classics, love, and friendship, this kind of book is for you. Although it's somewhat hard to get into ,I highly recommend this book. When you get to the end of the book ask yourself why?
