A wonderful classic that I enjoyed reading was Heidi. This classic was written by Johanna Spryi.
Heidi was a wonderful novel about a young girl and her grumpy grandfather that live high up on a mountain. Heidi is dumped on her grandfather when her parents die and her aunt is sick of her. Heidi's grandfather was not real happy to have her living with him, but that changes.
At first Heidi finds that her grandfather is not what she expected. Her grandfather is grumpy and hardly talks, but he is kind to her. After a few days Heidi softens her grandfather up. He laughs and plays with her. Heidi loves living with with her grandfather high up on the mountain and Heidi's grandfather loves living with Heidi. Heidi's grandfather learns that Heidi has brought a lot of joy into his life.
Johanna Spyri did a great job describing the characters in the book. You could picture them in your mind and picture what they were doing. Johanna Spyri also does a great job when she describes how the characters feel. An example of this is when one of Heidi's friends, a goat herder, gets jealous when Heidi starts spending her time with a new friend instead of him. You can really feel the hate and jealousy.
If you want to read a wonderful novel that will hold your attention, choose Heidi . I give this novel two thumbs up.
