Although it is a classic, The Thirty-Nine Steps was the first book of its
kind, thriller. The story takes place in England, where we meet an ordinary
man. One evening a strange man walks in to his apartment. He is given
lodging and a fine dinner. The next morning the mysterious visitor is found
skewered to the floor with a two foot dagger through his heart. He must
escape England and bring the dead man's journal to an anti-war group in
Scotland or a war group will take over Europe.
