Grade Point Average (GPA)

Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is computed at the end of your Junior year.

Here is how Niskayuna computes it:

First, numerical values are determined for letter grades:

H = 5.0	B+ = 3.3	C = 2.0
A+ = 4.3	B = 3.0	C- = 1.7
A = 4.0	B- = 2.7	D = 1.0
A- = 3.7	C+ = 2.3	F = 0

Full year courses or one credit courses receive full value.
Semester or one-half credit courses receive half the value.
Your GPA does NOT include Physical Education or Pass/Fail courses.

EXAMPLE:	GRADE	VALUE	CREDIT
English	A-	3.7	1.0
Global History	B	3.0	1.0
Earth Science	C	2.0	1.0
French II	D	1.0	1.0
Photography I	B	1.5	.5
	1 year total:	11.2	4.5

This is computed for each grade.

EXAMPLE:		TOTAL VALUE	TOTAL CREDIT
9th grade		10.5	3.5
10th grade		15.0	5.0
11th grade		16.0	5.0
	3 year total:	41.5	13.5
Total "Value" and divide by total "Credits":		41.5 divided by 13.5 = 3.074

In this example the GPA is 3.074.

If you have failed a course and have not repeated it or raised the grade, the "F" receives no value but the credit unit for that course must be counted. If you repeat a course and raise your grade, the higher grade is counted in the GPA and the lower grade is not. BOTH grades, however, will appear on your transcript.

		10.2 divided by 4.5 = 2.2666
