MAJOR OBJECTIVES:

 

I.          To provide an enriched and challenging studio experience for the highly motivated or talented art student

 

II.        To provide guidance to students in the preparation of art portfolios for college, art school, scholarship, and/or advanced placement consideration

 

III.       To encourage students toward achieving their greatest potential with regard to:

 

A.   The mastery of advanced skills in a variety of 2D and 3D art media

B.   Developing analytical/critical thinking and creative problem solving abilities

C.  Obtaining a deeper understanding of advanced artistic concepts

D.  Developing a greater appreciation for, and understanding of the arts and their importance to society

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

I.          The student will complete the equivalent of 2 to 5 major works of art per quarter in 2 dimensional design areas and at least 1 major work in a 3 dimensional format sometime during the year.

 

II.        The student who wishes to pursue art at later on in college is recommended to keep one 9x12" sketchbook to be used as a journal and record of idea development. Drawing one to two hours per week is recommended. Sketchbooks will be collected quarterly and extra credit is awarded to those students who choose to do this additional work.

 

III.       The student will compile an ongoing portfolio of all work completed during the year and all of the most successful pieces from previous years. In addition, the student will learn to and be required to maintain a digital portfolio of all their work throughout the year.

 

IV.      The student will participate in a number of class critiques each ten weeks and produce a research project each semester.

 

V.       The student is expected to spend additional time outside of class completing assignments.
