are represented at this eveningÕs award ceremony. Approximately 76 of these awards are determined by the Fine

ÒA SENSE OF
PLACEÓ A COLLABORATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT:
|
|
ÒA SENSE OF PLACEÓ My World and Welcome to It is the
title of a series of exhibitions that have come about through the
collaboration between the Viewpoint GalleryÕs Studio Art Project and the
photography department at Niskayuna High School. This current exhibition, My World and Welcome to It: A Sense of Place is the third collaboration between the two. |
A Òsense of placeÓ is the
attribution of non-material characteristics to a place.
It is the ÒsoulÓ of the place.
Adult Studio Art project students and teen-aged high school students were each given the same problem: to visual convey a Òsense of placeÓ by utilizing Adobe Photoshop in the construction of a composite work of art. As the adult students have very little experience with computers, not to mention Adobe Photoshop, each was teamed up with one or two teenage mentors. This exhibition is the result of their work alone and together.
Begun in June of 2002, by the Viewpoint Gallery at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, the Studio Art Project provides an art program for disabled students that promote creativity, independence, dignity, and community integration. The project has been designed to offer fundamental material use, technique, and art history, in a compassionate, supportive and inspiring environment. Classes meet weekly.
For more information, check out the Sunnyview website at www.sunnyview.org or pick-up a brochure at the front door reception desk.

NISK-ART MAGAZINE CLUB:
The
Nisk-Art Magazine Club annually produces a Niskayuna High School student Art
and Literary Magazine. Students
are involved in fund-raising activities from the beginning of the school year
to raise money for the publication of the magazine in the spring. Students from grades 9 – 12
submit artwork and literature to be judged and selected by club members for the
magazine. Selected artwork is
photographed and literature is retyped and placed into a page layout software
program. Student club members edit
and proof the final layout before sending it to a professional printer. Students sell the new edition at
various school events to raise funds for the next yearÕs publication. This process teaches students the
reality of creating and publishing a professional magazine, from the financial,
the artistic, to the editorial. It
is a very rewarding experience for students and advisors.
