PRESCHOOL STORY & ACTIVITY PROGRAM

The Preschool Library/Gym Hour typically meets for one hour on a day selected by the PTO coordinators from the beginning of January through mid April. The program gives the children a chance to meet some of their future teachers and fellow classmates and to become comfortable with Birchwood. Accompanying adults have the opportunity to meet with various faculty and staff at Birchwood and to learn about the school, the PTO, and the Kindergarten Year. Younger siblings are welcome to stay with parents/caregivers while the program is in session. Prekindergarten students who attend need to wear appropriate play clothing with sneakers for gym, and to bring an easily identifiable book bag or back pack to carry their library books. An invitation to join the program along with the necessary details are sent to all eligible children in December. All children who live in the
Birchwood attendance zone and are eligible to attend kindergarten
in September of the following year are invited to attend the Preschool
Program at Birchwood. The children enjoy a half hour story program
in the media center and a half hour activity in the gym. They
are encouraged to check out books on a regular basis. Parents/caregivers
and younger siblings meet in a separate room while the preschoolers
are engaged in their program.
